What is salvation through Jesus Christ and why do I need it?
Scripture tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Every man is in need of a Savior, because his sin is deserving of death (Romans 6:23). Sin has made us unclean in the eyes of God and deserving of eternity apart from Him. However, to save man from His sin, Jesus Christ took on flesh and died on the cross for the sin of man. His death provides the sacrifice to redeem those who are in the bondage of sin. All who desire to be saved from destruction need the salvation that is in Christ Jesus.
In order to be saved, we are to “believe in the Lord Jesus (Acts 16:31). In doing so, you may receive the salvation that God offers (Ephes. 2:8-9). Today you have been given the opportunity to turn from sin, asking forgiveness for it and running to the redemption that is in Jesus Christ.
What is baptism and why is it necessary?
Baptism is an act of following what Jesus called for us to do before He ascended into heaven. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus told His followers to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” While there is no spiritual change that takes place during baptism, it is an act of identifying with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection. Baptism provides believers an opportunity to declare their faith in Jesus Christ and to identify with Him before others.
What is a small group and why should I join one?
The life of a believer is to be knitted into the life of the church as a whole. Those who put their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are brought into His body (1 Corinthians 12:12-31). We believe that life as a follower of Jesus Christ is to be lived in community, seeking daily growth in the knowledge of God’s Word and practical accountability with brothers and sisters in Christ. Our small groups meet in homes throughout our community to grow in Truth, fellowship, and to reach out to the lost. These groups provide avenues to follow Christ’s call to discipleship. If you’re interested in joining a small group, stop by the welcome center for more information!
What is discipleship and how can I get started?
Jesus modeled and commanded followers to go and make disciples... We acknowledge this journey of faith involves a process of spiritual growth. So, we encourage every believer to participate in a discipleship accountability small group. Each fall and spring semester, Pastor David will start a new discipleship small group.
